The Minnesota City/County Facilities Management Association (MCCFMA) has established a formal mentoring program as part of its overall recruitment efforts to meet its mission.
“The mission of the Association shall be to support and advance the interests of county and city facility management professionals in the state of Minnesota by promoting quality education and professional development, as well as providing a central forum for the exchange of ideas.”

The idea of a mentoring program came about from members of the Membership Committee in 2023. The conversation focused on recruiting for the future of facilities management and to grow the Association membership. MCCFMA’s Membership Committee will provide leadership over this program as well as serve as sponsors to each mentor/mentee pair. The role of the Membership Committee is to develop, steer, and review the program.
The purpose of the mentoring program is to help engage our members in developing our future and the future of local government facility managers in Minnesota.
A mentoring program helps establish partnerships between two people that support a personal and professional development strategy. It opens the door for teaching, sharing, involvement, networking, and exploring all aspects of our profession with each other.
The objectives of the mentoring program are as follows:
- To help develop facilities management leadership within the government sector that is grounded in best practice and networking.
- To help develop collaboration among professionals throughout the organization.
Program Format and Protocols
The mentorship is a 12-month program (November to November), using the MCCFMA Annual Conference for starting and ending the program each year.
Participants within the program will be required to adhere to the following protocols:
- Maintain confidentiality with your mentor/mentee relationship.
- Maintain professionalism within your mentor/mentee relationship.
- Participate in the required training / group activities.
- Meet at least monthly (request that two or three meetings use a virtual format such as Zoom/Teams).
